Serve Humbly

Serve humbly ~ The foundation of God's word for the theme of our meditation is taken from the book of Joshua. Thus the word of God: “After the Israelites divided the land according to their inheritance, Joshua son of Nun was given an inheritance among them” - Joshua 19:49.

Leaders have great responsibilities, but they are also bestowed with many privileges. For example, when something is shared between a leader and their members, the leader usually does not make the final decision as to what portion he or she shares. Not so with Joshua.

Joshua is at the forefront of the war against the Canaanites. He became their leader. Plan your strategy, organize your team, and make sure that your team is following God's counsel. It was he who would take over the leadership of Moses and lead the Israelites across the Jordan River to the Promised Land.

He led the Israelite tribes in conquering city after city. He then divided the land among the tribes by lots according to God's word (Joshua 14:1-5). Interestingly, Joshua first made sure that each tribe received an inheritance.

He then received his inheritance. He will get his share in the end. A perfect example of the humility of a leader.

It's not just about who gets the final piece. But it's about your willingness to serve others and put your own interests first. This is what the Lord Jesus said: To be a leader, you must be a willing servant, a servant (Mark 10:43-44).

Of course, it is not easy. But we are commanded to do so. May we continue to learn to serve God and His people with humility.
