Struggle to Defend the Truth ~ The foundation of God's word for the theme of our meditation; is taken from the Gospel of Mark. This is what God said: “When Herod heard this, he said, “No, he is John, whom I beheaded, and who has risen again" - Mark 6:16.

We have heard the word that one of our acts of love for someone is to give a real rebuke when there is a deviation. While choosing to be silent about someone's mistakes may be a step that keeps us safe and away from bad risks, that is hidden love. Dare to rebuke and state the truth carries a risk, we can lose a lot of things.

 

What happened to John the Baptist is not much different from what happened to the prophets who lived before him. Together they became messengers of God, declared the truth in a nation with crooked hearts, and then experienced the same end: lost their lives!

 

Herod's statement stating that Jesus was John the Baptist who “resurrected” seemed to provide a real clue about the price that had to be paid for the ministry of Jesus and His disciples in the future. That Jesus would die frozen like a criminal and His disciples would also suffer persecution as preachers of truth.

Being a true follower of Christ means being ready to be a truth proclaimed in the midst of a situation full of aberrations. However, we are also made aware that being a truth announcer has a price to pay, there are risks.

 

Because of standing firm in the truth, we may not lose our lives; but may lose promotion opportunities at work, lose reputation, lose a sense of justice, etc. And this is where our decision is tested, that is, are we ready to stand for the truth with all the risks or are we going to act in deviance as long as we live safely?
